Monica Butcher – IT programmes
Fifty–six–year–old Monica Butcher lives in Clacton–on–Sea in a house near the beach. Monica is disabled and in a wheelchair, but keeps active with voluntary work, such as her role as secretary for a local access group. She also enjoys doing cross–stitch and looking after her grandchildren, and works closely with the local council.
Monica found vision2learn on the Internet and immediately signed up for a beginner level IT course. Learning online was ideal for Monica, she said:
"I chose to complete a course online because it is so much easier to do, as I’m wheelchair bound and can complete it in my own home."
The course has really helped to boost Monica’s confidence when using her computer. She has learned all the basics of word processing, getting the most from the Internet and using spreadsheets and databases. She said:
"I have enjoyed doing this course very much. It has benefited me in my voluntary work and really helped to increase my confidence."
Learning from home allowed Monica to study at any time and she didn’t have the hassle of attending college classes. She added:
"I prefer learning online because I can do it when I like. If I had to go to a class, I just wouldn’t do it, as it would be so difficult with a wheelchair!"
Monica has achieved so much and is very keen to study another vision2learn course. She goes to show that anyone can learn something new with a little determination.
