Joy Wakefield – IT programmes
Joy Wakefield is a 35–year–old mum of two boys aged 7 and 5. She lives in Scarborough and recently returned to work as a lunchtime supervisor at a local junior school. In her spare time she enjoys using her computer, doing cross–stitch, reading and listening to music.
Joy’s friend recommended vision2learn, so she decided to take a look for herself. After reading about the available courses, Joy signed up for a free beginner level IT course.
Joy said: "I used to work in a bank before the children were born and I wanted to see how much I had remembered. Also, an online course was such a convenient way for me to study, as I’m a full time mum, so needed the flexibility."
Thanks to the vision2learn course, Joy’s confidence in using her computer has really improved:
"I have certainly gained confidence and learned a great deal about working with computers," Joy said. "I hope that this will help me with seeking employment now that my boys are both attending school on a full time basis."
Joy is keen to recommend online learning to other parents. She commented:
"I would definitely recommend online courses to others, especially parents, carers and shift workers who would find it so much more convenient."
If she came across any difficulties on the course, Joy could rely on her online tutor for help and advice. She added:
"My online tutor was very patient and answered my queries very quickly. I found her comments very helpful and encouraging and her assistance made the online learning experience friendlier."
Joy is interested in furthering her studies and proves that even busy mums can find the time to learn.
"I would love to take another course with vision2learn, as it’s so convenient and ultimately very rewarding."
