Denise McKenzie – Practical Emotional Intelligence Skills

Denise McKenzieDenise McKenzie is 44 years old and lives in Shipley in West Yorkshire. She works in the administration team for a Housing Association in Bradford.

Denise was looking for learning options on the Internet when she came across vision2learn. She was very interested in the Practical Emotional Intelligence Skills course and enrolled straight away.

Online learning was really convenient for Denise, as she could learn when and where it suited her. She said:

"Learning online was great because I know I would hate to have to go out to college after working all day. Also, sometimes at work I have to do reception work which can be boring, so having something interesting to do whilst there was great. My boss didn’t mind me doing the course at work because it was beneficial for my job."

The course has benefited Denise in lots of different ways and she has learnt practical skills that she can use at work and at home. She commented:

"It has made me look at things differently and helped me in communicating more effectively by thinking more positively. Also it has helped me to understand other people better, which has helped a lot at work while working in a team."

Denise has even recommended vision2learn to family and friends. She said:

"My brother has started an IT course with vision2learn and a friend at work is currently doing the same IT course. I have since recommended vision2learn to three other people who are considering starting a course."

Denise found some aspects of the course challenging, but persevered with a little determination and also with help and advice from her online tutor. She added:

"During the Emotional Intelligence course there were times when I had to think deeply and look at myself critically. I found this challenging, as I had to undertake practical tasks to improve myself. I overcame this by doing a little at a time and using my new way of thinking positively."
"Sometimes I wasn’t sure what a task required, but after asking my tutor for help it became clearer. Feedback given by my tutor was helpful as well and I looked forward to reading if I was doing ok. It boosted my confidence no end."

Having enjoyed learning online so much, Denise is really keen to take another vision2learn course. She told us:

"I am considering taking another course because there is so much I want to learn but haven’t felt able to before due to lack of transport or time."
